Banks in India act against Future Retail for missing payments
Lenders to India's Future Retail have started classifying loans to the retailer as a "non-performing asset" after the company missed payments to the banks, they told the country's Supreme Court in a filing seen by Reuters.
The lenders also said they would be required by law to provision 80 billion-90 billion Indian rupees ($1.07 billion-$1.2 billion) in their books on account of the default by the country's second-largest retailer.
"Lenders have already classified/begun classifying the loan account of FRL as a non-performing asset ("NPA") since the payment was not made within" the stipulated time, they said in the filing, reviewed by Reuters.

The Union Budget has laid down a strong platform for capacity creation and productivity improvement for the economy. We believe that Banks like ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC Bank can witness strong lending growth coupled with margin expansion on the back of assets getting repriced faster than liabilities. Another sector that should do well is Capital Goods since the Government wants new capacities to come in, and thus the additional PLI schemes getting announced. Some of the stocks we recommend in the Capital Goods sector are Siemens, Voltamp Transformers, and L&T.

India's services growth at 6-mth low in Jan, input costs at decade high
India's dominant services sector expanded at its slowest pace in six months in January as restrictions due to a new wave of COVID-19 cases and surging prices weighed on demand, a private survey showed.
The IHS Markit Services Purchasing Managers' Index slumped to 51.5 in January from 55.5 in December, far below the 53.0 expected in a Reuters poll of economists but still above the 50-mark separating growth from contraction.
"The escalation of the pandemic and reintroduction of curfews had a detrimental impact on growth across the service sector," noted Pollyanna De Lima, economics associate director at IHS Markit.

ICICI Securities on V-Guard
We believe strong growth in kitchen appliances and Non-South region are DCF accretive. We continue to like V-Guard’s business model due to (1) strong market shares in stabilizers, water heaters and pumps, (2) investments in distribution and brand-building and (3) investments and likely success in kitchen appliances over the medium term. However, we cut our earnings estimates due to continued input material inflation. We maintain ADD rating on the stock with a revised DCF-based TP of Rs240 (implied P/E 30x of FY24E EPS).

India may cut record 2022/23 market borrowing plan by up to 600 billion rupees: Report
The Indian government may reduce by as much as 600 billion rupees its planned record market borrowing of 14.95 trillion rupees ($200 billion) for the next fiscal year, two government sources said.
The sources said the latest bond switch conducted by the government with the central bank at the end of January was not factored into budget estimates released on Tuesday.
The reduction could be announced before the end of March, the sources said requesting anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.
India's 10-year bond yield continued to rise on Wednesday, hitting a two-and-half year high, largely in reaction to the latest borrowing plan, which was over 40% higher than the borrowing slated for this year.
Markets had been expecting borrowing of 12-13 trillion rupees for 2022/23.

The markets are facing some upside pressure and have resisted around the 17800 level. That has now become a crucial patch to get past for the markets to start a new upward trajectory. If we can close above 17800, we should see higher levels. On the flip side, the current support is at 17200 and if that breaks, we will resume the current downtrend.
