Omicron Variant Cases and Deaths in India Live, Covid-19 Booster Vaccine Registration Latest Update: Even as the world sees new wave of Omicron infections, the latest buzz over the NeoCoV virus has triggered panic among general public. However, the experts around the world are reacting cautiously to the new kind of virus that is found in bats as of now. In a swift reaction, the World health Organization has also said that whether the NeoCoV virus can actually jump from bats to humans need a further study. The research on the NeoCoV virus was published by the scientists from Wuhan. The study, which was first reported by Sputnik news agency, has not been peer-reviewed as of now. However, the possibility of the new, highly transmissible virus attacking the humans can’t be completely ruled out.

Meanwhile, the situation in Europe seemed to have stabilised. A Reuters reports says that Germany is also witnessing far lesser number of cases. England, Poland have already lifted the restrictions. Back home, the intranasal booster dose can soon become a reality in India after the DCGI gave its approval to the Bharat Biotech for the Phase 3 trials. BBV154 – the intranasal vaccine- developed by the Hyderabad company has not received the government’s nod for use among the general public.

Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya held a virtual meeting today with the eastern states on the Covid-19 situation, reported ANI. The minister tweeted, “Discussions held on telemedicine, vaccination & COVID guidelines.”
Canada's capital city of Ottawa is set on Saturday for a “massive” protest against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's COVID-19 vaccine mandates with the arrival of convoys of hundreds of vehicles from across the country. The so-called “Freedom Convoy” – coming from east and west – started out as a protest against a vaccine requirement for cross-border truckers, but has turned into a demonstration against government overreach during the pandemic with a strong anti-vax streak. The convoys are scheduled to get in around noon, but already on Friday dozens of vehicles blocked the roads in front of parliament. Delhi recorded 4483 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, news agency ANI reported. The national capital also recorded 28 deaths and 8807 recoveries.
The number of COVID-19 cases reported in Delhi has reduced significantly in the last one week from over 11,000 cases logged on January 22, but the containment zones count remains over 40,000, according to official data. A containment zone is created by authorities to check the spread of infection if at least three cases of coronavirus are recorded in a household or in a neighbourhood. According to official data shared by the Delhi health department, the number of containment zones in the city stood at 41,095 on Friday, a fall from 42,388 on Thursday. The number of containment zones on January 22 was 43,457 when 11,486 Covid cases were recorded. The number of cases have dropped in the last one week, with over 4,000 cases logged on Friday. However, the number of containment zones are still in the range of over 40,000. (PTI)
Andhra Pradesh logged 11,573 fresh Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours ending 9 AM today, according to a health bulletin. The bulletin further stated that the total recoveries increased to 21,30,162 after 9,445 more people got cured of the infection. The state also recorded three more deaths today taking the overall toll to 14,594.
Doctors at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital have said that veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar's health condition has marginally improved. Dr Pratit Samdani of the hospital was reported by ANI as saying that Lata Mangeshkar's ventilator support was removed two days ago. She, however, continues to be under observation in an ICU.
Puducherry confirmed 855 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Saturday taking the overall case count to 1,59,824.
The new cases identified at the end of examination of 3,465 samples were spread over Puducherry 570, Karaikal 172, Yanam 102 and Mahe 11.
The active cases were 12,542 of whom 182 were in hospitals taking treatment while the remaining 12,360 patients were in home quarantine, Director of Health G Sriramulu said.
He said 2,604 patients recovered and were discharged during last twenty-four hours. The overall recoveries stood at 1,45,359. (PTI)

Indonesia is bracing for a third wave of COVID-19 infections as the highly transmissible omicron variant drives a surge in new cases, health authorities and experts said Saturday.
The country reported 9,905 new infections and seven deaths on Friday in the latest 24-hour period. It was the highest daily caseload since August last year when the country was struggling to contain a delta-driven wave.
Indonesia had recovered from last year's spike in cases and deaths that was among the worst in the region, and daily infections had fallen to about 200 by December. But cases are rising again just weeks after the country reported its first local omicron case. (AP)
