A case has been registered against Shweta Tiwari for her controversial remark under IPC section 295 (A).
TV star Shweta Tiwari, who became a household name for her remarkable performance in producer Ekta Kapoor's 2001 popular show 'Kasautii Zindagi Kay', ruffled some feathers at a press conference in Bhopal on Wednesday.

Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra confirmed that a case has been registered against the actress for allegedly hurting religious sentiments with her comment referring to God.

A case has been registered against Tiwari on Friday for her controversial remark under Indian Penal Code section 295 (A) - Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.

He added that further action will be taken as per the regulations.

An official of Shyamla Hills police station told PTI that the First Information Report was filed based on the complaint lodged by Sonu Prajapati, a local citizen, who alleged that the actor has hurt his religious sentiments through her comment.

"We will summon Tiwari to the police station either by sending her a notice by post or by sending a police team to her place to serve notice," the official added.

The offence is non-bailable, but an arrest can't be made according to the Supreme Court's directive issued earlier as it attracts imprisonment of less than seven years.

According to PTI, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kotwali) Bittu Sharma said that the actress would be formally arrested, but she can get bail from the police station itself after which she has to get it rectified by a competent court.

On Thursday, the minister had directed the city police to investigate the matter and submit a report within 24 hours. He had earlier said that he strongly condemns her comments.

The 41-year-old actress was in Bhopal on Wednesday with her co-stars Rohit Roy, Digangana Suryavanshi and Sourabh Raaj Jain for the promotion of her upcoming web series 'Showstopper'.

A video of Tiwari referring to God while making a statement about her brassiere went viral on social media. Netizens have also expressed disappointment over her comments.

The reports suggest that Tiwari made the comment as a joke in reference to Jain's character in the show. Jain, who played the role of Lord Krishna in the mythological show, will essay the role of a 'bra fitter' in the upcoming series.
