Mahindra & Mahindra(up 3.85 per cent), Eicher Motors(up 3.48 per cent), Bharat Forge(up 2.75 per cent), Amara Raja Batteries(up 2.75 per cent) and Ashok Leyland(up 2.71 per cent) were among the top gainers.
TVS Motor Company(down 6.06 per cent) and Maruti Suzuki(down 0.79 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Auto index was up 1.43 per cent at 11727.3 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 231.35 points at 17341.5, while the BSE Sensex was up 701.65 points at 57978.59.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 48 were trading in the green, while 2 were in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, PNB, Suzlon Energy, TV18 Broadcast and BHEL were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Timescan Logistics(India)Ltd., Guj Mineral Dev., Khaitan Chem, Lotus Eye Hosp and Steel Cast hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Kriti Ind, Hind Nat Glass, Dynamic Services & Security Ltd., Vaibhav Global and Euro India Fresh hit fresh 52-week lows in trade.
