Brigade Enterprises(up 0.6 per cent) were among the top gainers.
Indiabulls Real Estate(down 5.62 per cent), Godrej Properties(down 5.05 per cent), DLF(down 3.56 per cent), Prestige Estates Projects(down 3.38 per cent) and Macrotech Developers(down 3.12 per cent) were the top losers on the index.
The Nifty Realty index was down 3.2 per cent at 455.55 at the time of writing this report.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 280.1 points at 16997.85, while the BSE Sensex was down 955.75 points at 56902.4.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 4 were trading in the green, while 46 were in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, Suzlon Energy, JP Power, TV18 Broadcast and Zomato Ltd. were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Mahalaxmi Rub, TV18 Broadcast, Ambica Agarbathies & Aroma Industries Ltd., Signet Ind and Khaitan Chem hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while IndiaMART, CarTrade Tech, Hind Nat Glass, Nuvoco Vistas Corporation Ltd. and HDFC AMC hit fresh 52-week lows in trade.
