The government had said that the Republic Day celebrations will now be celebrated for a week

India's military might, cultural diversity and varied unique initiatives is on display as President Ram Nath Kovind leads the nation today in celebrating the 73rd Republic Day.

The National Flag was unfurled followed by the National Anthem with a booming 21-gun salute. The parade commenced with President Ram Nath Kovind taking the salute.

The parade is commanded by Parade Commander, Lieutenant General Vijay Kumar Mishra, Ati Vishisth Seva Medal, a second-generation Army officer. Major General Alok Kacker, Chief of Staff, Delhi Area will be the Parade Second-in-Command.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation by tweeting, "Wishing you all a happy Republic Day. Jai Hind!"

This year's parade will feature a grand flypast by 75 Indian Air Force aircraft and helicopters, cultural performances by 480 dancers selected through a nationwide Vande Bharatam dance competition and a National Cadet Corps 'Shaheedon Ko Shat Shat Naman' programme that will be beamed on large LED screens.

People were asked to register on the MyGov portal to watch the live event online. They will also be able to vote for the best marching contingent and tableau in the popular choice category.

Only double-vaccinated adults and single-dose vaccinated children of 15 and above will be allowed at the parade. Due to the pandemic, there will be no foreign contingent this year.

President Kovind Posthumously Awards Ashok Chakra To J&K Police ASI Babu Ram
President Ramnath Kovind on Wednesday posthumously awarded Ashok Chakra to Assistant Sub Inspector Babu Ram of the Jammu and Kashmir Police at the Republic Day parade.

Babu Ram's widow Rina Rani and son Manik received the award from President Kovind.

ASI Babu Ram killed three terrorists during an operation in Srinagar on August 29, 2020. He displayed valour and exemplary raw courage in engaging and eliminating terrorists and died for the country.
