- Subhash Rai, SP legislator from Jalalpur in Ambedkar Nagar district, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party after the ticket from his seat was given to Rakesh Pandey, a former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator.Rakesh Pandey had joined the SP two weeks ago and has now been rewarded with Assembly ticket.

FCRA registration: Supreme Court to hear plea against Centre's decision today
The FCRA registration is mandatory for any association and NGO to receive foreign funding. There were 22,762 FCRA-registered organisations till December 31, 2021.
On January 1, the number came down to 16,829. These are considered "live" organisations.
BJP CEC meeting today, to finalize names of remaining candidates for UP, Manipur and Punjab polls
- The CEC meeting will be held at around 11.30 am at the party headquarters in the national capital.
- So far, the BJP has announced 194 candidates for Uttar Pradesh and 34 candidates for Punjab, however, no list of candidates has been released for Manipur as of now.
- Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur will be completed in seven phases with UP being the first to go to the polls on February 10.
Punjab Polls: Filing of nomination to begin from Jan 25
The nominations for the upcoming elections would be filed in the office of respective returning officers from 11 am to 3 pm from January 25 to February 1, 2022.
PM Modi to virtually interact with Gujarat BJP cadres today
As part of a pre-poll preparedness drive for the BJP in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually interact with the party cadres at 11 am Tuesday. Over five lakh BJP members will participate in the virtual meet using the NaMo application.
