Slashes the ball behind square, only for Markram, who has been outstanding in the field so far, to make a mess of the chance. So two drops and a comical escape from a run out. Single to Rahul off the first delivery. Pant then rather comically falls over while trying to scoop the ball towards fine leg, with Shamsi walking up to him and giving him a piece of his mind. Pant follows it up with a slog down the ground, the ball landing just short of the boundary cushion that is signalled a four. He cuts the ball through the covers off the last delivery, getting enough time to come back for a second. Seven from the over.

Pant brings up his fifty with a single off the first delivery, before scooping the ball over fine leg two balls later to collect his seventh boundary. The runs are flowing for the Indians at this stage. Eight from the over, with the visitors fairly well set at the halfway mark in their innings.

Pant collects a third boundary from the over with a late cut that guides the ball towards the wide third man fence, before moving to 49 with a single off the penultimate delivery.
