
Delhi Live News: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that he has learnt through sources that the Enforcement Directorate(ED) may arrest Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain. “We have learnt through our sources that the ED is about to arrest Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain just ahead of polls in Punjab… They have raided Satyendar Jain twice earlier and have come up empty handed,” he said.
Ahead of the Republic Day parade, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) released a video showing their machinery for armed forces. This year, counter-drone technology will be used for security and over 27,000 police personnel, according to Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana.
Traffic movement in Delhi would get affected in certain places on Sunday due to the Republic Day 2022 ‘rehearsal parade,’ Delhi Traffic Police informed. Due to the rehearsal, no traffic movement will be allowed from Vijay Chowk to India Gate from 6 pm today, on Rajpath from 11 pm, and the ‘C’-Hexagan- India Gate will remain closed from 9:15 pm. “The parade rehearsal will start at 10:20 am from Vijay Chowk and will proceed to National Stadium,” the advisory said.
At least 106 people, mostly homeless persons, have died in Delhi this month due to cold conditions, non-government organisation Centre for Holistic Development (CHD) has claimed and written to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal requesting him to make proper arrangements for such people during winters.
While officials from the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) denied that deaths have occurred due to cold, officers of the Delhi Police acknowledged that the number of deaths among homeless people suffering from medical issues goes up during winters.
"There have been no deaths due to cold. However, fatalities among homeless people due to other issues, such as accidents, diseases, alcohol and drug-related problems, do take place, but DUSIB does not maintain such data," an official said, requesting anonymity. (PTI)

How Indian Army uniforms and rifles have evolved over the decades will be on display at this year's Republic Day parade, Major General Alok Kakkar said on Sunday.
Three marching contingents of the Indian Army will wear uniforms and carry rifles from previous decades, while one contingent will wear the new combat uniform and carry the latest Tavor rifles at Republic Day Parade-2022 (RDP-2022) as a part of 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebrating the 75th year of India's independence, he said.
There will be a total of six marching contingents of the Indian Army at RDP-22, he said at a press conference. Each marching contingent at RDP-22 will comprise 96 soldiers instead of the usual 144 so that proper attention can be given to Covid-19 protocol. (PTI)
The Omicron variant of COVID-19 is in the community transmission stage in India and has become dominant in multiple metros where new cases have been rising exponentially, the INSACOG has said in its latest bulletin.t also said BA.2 lineage, an infectious sub-variant of Omicron, has been found in a substantial fraction in the country.
The INSACOG, in its January 10 bulletin that was released on Sunday, said while most Omicron cases so far have been asymptomatic or mild, hospitalisations and ICU cases have increased in the current wave and the threat level remains unchanged. (With PTI)

A 32-bed Covid isolation centre for students and campus residents has been set up inside Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in the national capital, following the Delhi government’s health department order on January 21.
The centre set up in one of the residential hostels at JNU is linked to the Delhi government’s Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, which will provide manpower, logistics, consumables and medicines. It will be monitored by the New Delhi District Administration.
The JNU students’ union (JNUSU) has been demanding that a Covid care centre be set up on the campus, saying multiple students on campus had been infected with coronavirus disease in the ongoing third wave of the pandemic.
Less than one in four patients admitted with Covid-19 during the current wave of the pandemic needed oxygen support as compared to nearly three in four requiring it during the delta variant driven wave in April-May last year, shows the analysis of patient data from Max group of hospitals.
Of the total hospitalisations across Max healthcare hospitals, 63% of patients needed oxygen support during the first wave, 74% during the second wave, and 23.4% during the current wave. There were fewer hospitalisations as well, even though the number of cases during the current wave reached the same levels as the previous wave. According to the India Meteorological Department, rain on Saturday brought down the maximum temperature to 14.7 degrees Celsius, seven notches below the average and also the lowest for the season so far. The Safdarjung Observatory, which is considered the official marker for the city, had recorded 5 mm rainfall till 8 am on Saturday. The minimum temperature settled at 11.5 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average, the IMD said.
Delhi on Saturday recorded 70 mm of rainfall, the highest for the month of January in the lasr 32 years, the India Meteorological Department said. Delhi registered 69.8 mm of rainfall by 9.30 pm on Saturday. It is the highest since January 1989 when the capital received 79.7 mm rainfall, he said.
Over two lakh people have been administered the precautionary dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Delhi since the exercise commenced on January 10, according to official data.
The third or the precautionary dose is being administered to people aged 60 or more, healthcare workers and frontline workers who took their second dose of the vaccine nine months ago. They are being given the same vaccine they received earlier. Around three lakh such people became eligible for the third dose from January 10.
Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta has urged Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to lift the weekend curfew in the national capital and withdraw restrictions at markets, where odd-even is currently in place for shops.
Baijal had on Friday rejected the government’s proposal to lift the weekend curfew in the national capital and ease restrictions at markets. The L-G had said the restrictions need to remain in place until Covid-19 cases come down in the city.
Gupta said that he has written to Baijal requesting him to convene a DDMA meeting immediately to take decisions in this regard as traders and businessmen have suffered the most due to the third wave of the pandemic.
Delhi on Saturday reported 11,468 Covid-19 fresh cases while the positivity rate dropped marginally to 16.36% from 18.04% as recorded on the previous day. The city also recorded 45 deaths, which is the highest single-day toll due to Covid this month.

Delhi on Saturday reported 11,486 new Covid-19 cases and 45 related deaths, according to city health department. The test positivity rate dipped further to 16.36 percent. Currently, there are at least 58,593 active cases in the city while cumulative infections stand at 17,82,514. On Friday, the national capital had reported 10,756 Covid-19 cases and 38 deaths with a test positivity rate of 18.04 per cent.
Labs giving real-time data to states, segregation of coronavirus patients on basis of districts and assembly constituencies are part of the SOPs laid down by the Delhi government. In an order issued last week, the Health Department stated that it has prepared SOPs for Covid-care centres which also listed out guidelines to be followed for telecalling patients. According to a PTI report, under the SOPs, labs have been directed to give real-time data within 20 hours to the State Covid-19 Response Centre. They have been directed to segregate cases on the basis of districts, assembly names and wards, etc. This data will be published on the integrated management app. The tele-calling unit of the Covid-centre is responsible for calling up the patient within half-a-hour of testing positive. In case a patient requires admission, the team from the centre has to reach within an hour and facilitate it, the order said.

The Delhi High Court has directed the UIDAI to provide information relating to over 400 people who were allegedly issued fake Aadhaar cards for enrollment for civil defence training in the national capital.
Justice Chandra Dhari Singh allowed the petition filed by the Delhi government seeking direction to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to disclose information on the Aadhar card holders sought by an investigation agency for probe of a case.
The case was lodged by the Anti Corruption Branch for the alleged offences of criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. (PTI)
