Shares of Bajaj Auto(up 3.36 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(up 1.91 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp(up 1.5 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Amara Raja Batteries(down 3.0 per cent), Tata Motors(down 2.69 per cent), Bosch(down 2.06 per cent), Balkrishna Industries(down 1.4 per cent) and MRF(down 1.4 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Auto index closed 0.19 per cent down at 11561.75.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 139.85 points at 17617.15, while the BSE Sensex stood down 427.44 points at 59037.18.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 15 ended in the green, while 35 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, JP Power, Suzlon Energy, YES Bank and Zomato Ltd. were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Worth Peripherals, Linc Pen Plast, Pressman Advertisin, Gokaldas Export and V-Marc India Ltd. hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Zomato Ltd., Strides Shasun, Spandana Sphoorty, McDowell Hold and IndiaMART hit their fresh 52-week lows.
