A lot is happening in the world of entertainment today. From the highly-anticipated Gehraiyaan trailer release starring Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Dhairya Karwa and Ananya Panday to the new posters reveal of Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, there is a number of things to unpack.
The Gehraiyaan trailer caught a number of eyeballs, as celebrities rushed to speak highly of the first full promo of the Amazon Prime movie. The Shakun Batra directorial is being pitched as a mature relationship drama. It is being co-produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. The official synopsis of Gehraiyaan reads, “Directed by the very talented Shakun Batra, the much-awaited movie looks beneath the surface of complex modern relationships, adulting, letting go and taking control of ones’ life path.”
As far as Hollywood is concerned, the makers released two brand new posters of the upcoming The Batman movie. While one featured the cowled face of the Caped Crusader, the other starred Pattinson and Zoe Kravtiz as Batman and Catwoman, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the world of Indian television, there was some unfortunate news as TV star Shaheer Sheikh’s father passed away due to Covid-19 complications. Shaheer had earlier taken to social media to share that his father is suffering from the disease and is very critical.
Deepika Padukone said Shakun is the best when it comes to showcasing different relationship. “He watches different kind of people and different kind of relationship without the lens of judgement. Whether it is the film or the character, we haven't seen something like this. So, this is my first of its kind, one has to really dig deep and understand what the director is trying to excavate from you.”
Deepika says Shakun came to London to narrate the script when she was shooting for 83. “He is not my director, we have become friends, and we have promised each other that we are always going to be honest with each other and maybe that's the reason we could make Gehraiyaan the way it is. We have given so much of ourselves to the film and along the way made such great friends. Ananya, Siddhanth and Dhairya, we truly had the best time one can have on a film set. Dhairya is like a big brother to me, I know I can call him anytime and I know he will be there for me. Ananya is younger than my younger sister and I love her. Siddhant, I have seen his work closely in Gully Boy and now working together was great. We have seen each other bloom and blossom while working on this film. We all have really grown in the last two years, and that's my takeaway from Gehraiyaan.”
Deepika Padukone calls Gehraiyaan an incredible journey. She shared, “Shakun, like most actors, has always been on my bucket list. Ranveer Singh (husband) always thought Shakun and I'd make a great film, and here we are. Deep down inside, I knew we would make a film together, didn't ever feel the need to pursue. I knew that it would just happen one day.”
Siddhant says that he is emotional today. “When Shakun narrated the script to me, I knew I had to do it, but I didn't know how. There was no reference point to it. There is nothing like this ever made. I have goosebumps and I am very excited for everyone to see it,” he said.
Karan Johar says that he has seen Ananya when she was one day old, “and now she has now become a gorgeous woman.” She says Shakun was ‘on my bucket list’. She said, “Every single person involved on the film is special. I am very grateful to everyone, as I got the opportunity to work on this film. We were sent to Goa to shoot and we were so away from everyone else that we became a family.”
Dhairya calls Genraiyaan a great learning journey. He said, “This is the first time I am centrally cast and everybody from Shakun to Deepika, they have made me feel very comfortable, and that kind of takes the pressure off.” Karan said Dhairya’s part is very close to his heart because he is named Karan.
Karan called Ananya ‘Dharma's baby girl’. He said, “Our actors have done such a great job, no role was easy. Deepika was great. Ananya, our baby girl is amazing and Siddhanth, we have adopted you with love.”
Shakun Batra spoke about Karan Johar and said he has learnt a lot from him. “What I have learnt, I have learnt from you. You don't work through definition; you make films because you love films. Thankfully my journey from being an assistant director to actually being able to make films and now also bring a producer, it has been a smooth one. And I am happy to do this with you, because what you do is to make the audience happy by giving them great films.”
Director Shakun Batra posted, "Trailer out now! Dive deep into the world of #Gehraiyaan on Amazon Prime on 11th Feb."
Karan also shared how Shakun Batra is special to Dharma. He said, “Kapoor and Sons is one of the best films we have made and that happened because of Shakun.”
Responding to Karan, Shakun said, “I took some time to reach here, and now I am here because of you. Thanks for having faith in me, I feel I have arrived now that I have driven this film.”
Karan also shared how Shakun Batra's script ‘overwhelmed’. Karan shared, “After Shakun Batra shared the script with Deepika, she didn't get back to him. Shakun asked me what has gone wrong. So, I called Deepika and asked her about the film. She told me that she is definitely doing the film but she was overwhelmed reading the script.”
Karan Johar joins the trailer launch and reveals how the film's title Gehraiyaan was fixed only one and a half months ago. He said, “We fixed on this title only one and a half months ago. Before that we kept getting weird suggestions. I also have some of the worst suggestions.”
Gehraiyaan trailer launch event is happening virtually. It was initially supposed to be on January 5, on Deepika Padukone's birthday, but was postponed after the makers pushed the film's release to February.
