Shares of Dr Reddys Laboratories(up 0.45 per cent) and Lupin(up 0.12 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.
On the other hand, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals(down 4.21 per cent), Strides Pharma Science(down 4.07 per cent), Cadila Healthcare(down 3.65 per cent), Alkem Laboratories(down 2.5 per cent) and Aurobindo Pharma(down 2.48 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.
The Nifty Pharma index closed 1.19 per cent down at 13697.6.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 195.05 points at 18113.05, while the BSE Sensex stood down 554.05 points at 60754.86.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 8 ended in the green, while 42 closed in the red.
Shares of Vodafone Idea, Suzlon Energy, JP Power, Reliance Power and YES Bank were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
Shares of Khandwala Sec, D K Enterprises Global Ltd., OM Metal Infra, PTC Financial and Parin Furniture hit their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade, while Dilip Buildcon, Spandana Sphoorty, Jubilant Life and IGL hit their fresh 52-week lows.
