Notorious thief arrested for stealing electric wires, scrap dealer for purchasing

JAMMU, Jan 16: In a much needed respite from the ongoing theft cases of electric wires, Bahu Fort Police arrested a notorious thief for stealing electric wires of prominent houses in and around Trikuta Nagar area and a scrap dealer for purchasing the same.
As per police sources, on January 12 this year, a written complaint was lodged by a person namely Rahul, son of Kirti, a resident of Sector 3 Trikuta Nagar with Police Station Bahu Fort regarding theft of around 80 to 90 meters live electric wire of 16 sq mm of his residential house.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 14 under Section 379 IPC was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, a team from Police Station Bahu Fort led by PSI Balbir Singh under the supervision of SHO Bahu Fort Inspector Nayat Ali and SDPO East Syed Zaheer Abbas Jafari put in hectic efforts and finally nabbed the thief with the assistance of CCTV camera footages and Call Details Record (CDR).
The arrested thief was identified as Surjeet Singh, son of Ranjot Singh, a resident of Preet Nagar District Jammu. He also confessed his involvement in the aforesaid case and also admitted of similar theft in the prominent houses earlier also.
During questioning, Surjeet Singh disclosed that he use to consume heroin and to purchase the same, he stole electric wires of prominent houses.
Moving on with further investigation, a scrap dealer was also arrested for purchasing the stolen electric wires. He was identified as Jai Parkash, son of Dokara, a resident of Bihar, at present Sanjay Nagar District Jammu.
Stolen property along with 70 to 80 kilograms burnt electric wires which were stolen from different houses in the past two months was also recovered.
With the arrest of this thief and scrap dealer, people of Trikuta Nagar and its surrounding areas are feeling some respite from the ongoing electric wires thefts.
Further questioning of the arrested thief and scrap dealer is going on to ascertain their involvement on other theft cases.
The whole operation was conducted under the supervision of SP South Deepak Digra and SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli.
