Keegan Petersen | Player of the Match | speaks:

" It hasn't sunk in yet. It's a mixed bag to be honest. Happy, emotional. I was trying to be positive and then build on that. It's been difficult conditions all around and was just sticking to my guns. It's been a long journey, can't tell the whole story now, won't be over till tomorrow morning."

17:48 (IST)14 Jan 2022
Dean Elgar speaks:

"Really proud. We were thrown under the sword quite a few times this series and the guys responded brilliantly. Obviously, to bounce back after losing the first game, to believe that we could still win. Extremely happy. Helps to have a group that doesn't have any real big names, they like to rally together and play as one. And that's crucial. Extremely proud of this group of players that we have here. Ultimately, if you want to operate at our performance levels, you need tough chats and I'm a bit of old-school mentality with a new-school twist. I laid a few challenges, even to some of the senior players as well. It was great to see the guys take my message on board."

17:32 (IST)14 Jan 2022
Virat Kohli speaks:

"I think it's a great spectacle of Test cricket for all to see. We played well in the first game to win but South Africa bounced back well in the second and carried on the momentum in the third as well. There was some lapse of concentration from us as well in key moments. I thought South Africa performed better in those key moments and totally deserved the win."

It’s really immature, you can’t be a role model in this manner: Gautam Gambhir slams Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli’s outburst against a controversial DRS decision during the third Test against South Africa was “immature” and with such “exaggerated” reaction, the India skipper will never be a role model to youngsters, feels former opener Gautam Gambhir. Kohli, his deputy KL Rahul and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made some unsavoury comments about umpiring and technology in stump mic after rival skipper Dean Elgar got a massive reprieve due to a contentious DRS decision in the last hour on day 3.

Dean Elgar’s DRS gaffe compared to Sachin Tendulkar’s controversy in 2011 World Cup

After South African captain Dean Elgar survived an LBW decision on Day 3 of the third Test in Cape Town, members of the Indian team vented their ire on field. Meanwhile, cricket experts and former players drew comparisons of the incident to a similar one in 2011 World Cup involving Sachin Tendulkar.

Livid over DRS reprieve for Dean Elgar, Virat Kohli vents on stump mic

With the Test and the series slipping out of their hands towards the end of Day 3 at Newlands and the Decision Review System overturning spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s confident LBW appeal against South African skipper Dean Elgar, Indian players used the stump microphone to air their displeasure against the host broadcasters.

Kohli, Ashwin, Rahul slam broadcasters after DRS gaffe

For some time, the bowlers lost focus before getting Elgar at the fag end of the day. Even the umpire expressed his shock and was heard saying “that is impossible,” on the stump mic. Moments later Ravi Ashwin said: “You should find better ways to win Supersport.” After that, KL Rahul was heard saying: “Whole country playing against XI guys.” Another one chimed in to say, “broadcasters are here to make money boys”.

A few resemblances are hard to ignore as this hard-fought Test series goes into its deciding day. Four years ago at Newlands, India were set a target of 208 by South Africa. Four years later at the same venue, India set a target of 212 for South Africa. The hosts had gone on to win that match by a comfortable margin of 72 runs. That may well have served as motivation for India at the start of the chase on Thursday, but as South Africa closed Day Three on 101/2, that kind of victory margin — if not perhaps the victory itself — is out of the question now.
