Months after parting ways with actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu, south actor Naga Chaitanya has broken his silence. The actor said that the decision to separate from his wife was taken in their mutual best interest.
While promoting his upcoming film 'Bangarraju', the Telugu actor was asked how he overcame the difficult times in his personal life. Chaitanya responded saying, "My entire family stood by me during those difficult times. It was a decision taken in the best interests of the two of us. She's happy. I'm also happy. Both of us are doing well professionally too." The short clip of Chaitanya's answer was later shared on Twitter by a fan.
This is the first time that the actor was talking about his divorce that became a topic of discussion across social media. In December last year, in another interview Chaitanya had said that he will not tolerate anyone hurting his family.
In the same interview, the actor had also mentioned that he would not play any role that will affect his family and their reputation. “I can play all kinds of roles. However, those roles should not affect my family and our reputation. I will not accept such roles which will bring embarrassment to my family members,” he had said.
Meanwhile, in December, Samantha had told ETimes that she was done speaking about the divorce. “I think I am done speaking about it. It was important to speak about it and I have addressed it but I don't think it is necessary to keep on repeating that, again and again,” the actress said breaking her silence months after the separation.
In her earlier interview with Filmfare, Samantha had said that her divorce took a toll on her mental health.
On October 2nd last year, the couple took to their social media handles to announce their divorce. The couple had issued an official statement together that read, 'After much deliberation and thought, Chay and I have decided to part ways as husband and wife to pursue our own paths. We are fortunate to have a friendship of over a decade that was the very core of our relationship which we believe will always hold a special bond between us. We request our fans, well-wishers, and the media to support us during this difficult time and give us the privacy we need to move on. Thanking you for your support.'
