Live news updates: India reported 247,417 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, the most since late May, according to data from the health ministry. The country has 5,488 cases of the fast-spreading Omicron coronavirus variant.
New daily infections increased by 27 per cent since Wednesday and the positivity rate—the percentage of Covid-19 tests that result in positive cases—has increased from 11.5 per cent to 13 per cent.
