
Mumbai Live News: Mumbai on Tuesday reported 11,647 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said in a health bulletin. The test positivity rate fell from 28 per cent on Monday to 18.7 per cent. The active cases in the city rose to 1,00,523. After reporting the highest number of cases in a single day on Friday, the tally of Covid-19 cases continued to dip in Mumbai on the fourth consecutive day. On Monday, the city had reported 13,648 new infections. Meanwhile, Dharavi on Tuesday witnessed a sharp decline in newly reported Covid-19 cases. Only 51 new infections were reported in the last 24 hours.

A total of 10,698 precautionary or booster doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered on the first day of the drive at Mumbai. Out of the total doses, 5,249 were administered to health workers, 1,823 to frontline workers and 3,626 to the citizens above 60 years with comorbidities.
Almost seven months after amending the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975, the state government on Monday constituted the Maharashtra State Tree Authority and appointed a chairman and three members.
The tree authority will look into projects that would need the felling of more than 200 trees of fives years old or more, among others.

Bandra magistrate court this Thursday will hear the bail plea of Vishal Kumar Jha, the first arrested accused in the Bulli Bai app case, who was remanded to judicial custody on Monday after testing positive for Covid.
Twenty-one-year-old Jha, a native of Bihar, was detained on January 3 from Bengaluru where he was pursuing civil engineering, and arrested next day. He was remanded to police custody till Monday this week.

Maharashtra reported 34 new cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, raising their count to 1,281. Of the 34 new cases of the highly contagious variant, 25 were reported from Pune city, six from Pune rural, two from Solapur and one from Panvel.

A delegation led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ashish Shelar met Maharashtra Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat on Monday evening demanding a stay on non-agricultural (NA) tax notices issued by the revenue department to the housing societies in Mumbai’s suburbs.
“Every year non-agricultural tax is levied on nearly 20,000 housing societies in Mumbai’s suburbs, which is unjust. These societies have already paid this tax at the time of construction. Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has tested positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms and is undergoing treatment at a city hospital, her niece said.
The 92-year-old veteran, also known as the Nightingale of India, was admitted to the ICU of Breach Candy hospital in south Mumbai two days ago. "She is mild COVID positive. Considering her age, doctors advised us that she should be in the ICU because she requires constant care. And we cannot take a chance. As a family we want the best and want to ensure she has 24X7 care," Mageshkar's niece Rachna Shah told PTI.
"She will be fine. But she is going to take a while because of her age. And also, COVID-19 takes seven days," she added. (PTI)
A Mumbai-based businessman was recently tricked by cyber fraudsters posing as officials from the Military hospital and allegedly duped of Rs 2 lakh on the pretext of an order for an ECG machine.
An FIR was registered to the tune at Goregaon police station on December 9. The 54-year-old complainant told the police that he runs a business of bio-medical electronics equipment and stays with his wife and two children.
The police said the businessman had his business listed on India Mart and usually takes an advance from his customers before making deliveries through courier services. However, for deliveries at government departments, he reportedly makes a payment of 10% of the tender amount to bag the order and gets it back a year later.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed an affidavit opposing the plea by the wife of former Maharashtra home minister, Anil Deshmukh, challenging the proceedings before the adjudicating authority under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) pertaining to the provisional attachment of assets by.
The ED on July 16 last year provisionally attached immovable assets worth Rs 4.2 crore belonging to Deshmukh and his family members under PMLA in corruption cases.
The Bombay High Court on December 10 last year said the ED’s adjudicating authority can hear and pass final orders on the provisional attachment of assets of Anil Deshmukh and his wife Aarti in a money laundering case, but no coercive action shall be taken with regard to these properties till January 10.
Mumbai Police's cyber department registered a Non-Cognizable (NC) offence against an unidentified person after a complainant in the hate app case told them that she had received threat calls on her phone.
The complainant told the police that the caller threatened her over the phone and asked why she revealed their names and filed FIR against them, an official at the Cyber police station in the Bandra Kurla Complex told PTI. He said the police are investigating how the caller got the mobile phone number of the complainant.
A Mumbai court extended till January 14 the police custody of Shweta Singh and Mayank Rawal, arrested from Uttarakhand in connection with the case pertaining to the 'Bulli Bai' app, which targeted Muslim women by putting up their images online for 'auction'.
Besides, the court remanded another accused, Vishal Kumar Jha, who was the first to be arrested in the case from Bengaluru, to judicial custody till January 24 as he had tested positive for coronavirus.
The court was informed by the city police's cyber cell that Jha tested positive for the coronavirus on January 9 following which he has been sent to the suburban Kalina quarantine centre of the BMC.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation completed the excavation of one of the two tunnels of the Coastal Road project. The excavation of the 2-km long tunnel from Priyadarshani Park to Marine Drive was completed by India's largest TBM (tunnel boring machine) Machine 'Mawla', a BMC release said.
The civic body said that excavation of the second tunnel using the TBM will begin in April. The work for the Coastal Road project, which is estimated to cost Rs 12,721 core, is expected to be completed in December 2023.
