Coronavirus Vaccine Registration, Coronavirus Omicron Variant Cases in India January 12 Live Update: India reported 1,94,720 fresh coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, taking its overall tally of Covid-19 cases to 3,60,70,510 which includes 4,868 cases of Omicron variant, according to data from the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday. The number of active Covid-19 cases surged to 9,55,319, the highest in 211 days, while the Covid-19 death toll climbed to 4,84,655 with 442 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am said. Of the total 4,868 cases of Omicron variant, 1,805 have recovered or migrated so far. Maharashtra reported the highest number of 1,281 cases followed by Rajasthan at 645, Delhi 546, Karnataka 479 and Kerala 350.

As the Covid surge, led by the contagious Omicron variant, continues in India, the number of active cases in the country nears the 10-lakh mark. Amid the spurt in fresh Coronavirus infections, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday held a meeting with leaders of the Indian Medical Association and senior doctors across the country on COVID-19 management. “Discussed with 120 expert doctors from across the country regarding the current COVID-19 situation through VC. Listened to their suggestions and gave related instructions. “I believe that we all will work together to fight against Corona,” he said in a tweet in Hindi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to hold a meeting with state chief ministers tomorrow (Thursday) on the Covid-19 situation in the country.

India on Tuesday reported a slightly less number of new Coronavirus infections. Since the emergence of Omicron, the country has been witnessing a sharp spike in new Covid-19 cases. Maharashtra, Delhi, and Mumbai are the worst affected regions.
Meanwhile, several states have imposed strict restrictions in order to check the Covid-19 spread. The Karnataka government has extended the stringent measures imposed to contain the surging Covid-19 cases in the state till January 31 morning. Delhi government has asked all private offices to close, barring the ones in the exempted category, and to encourage work from home. Amid the Covid-19 surge, the Gujarat government puts a cap on attendees at weddings and other events.

Coronavirus Live Tracker: Mizoram reports 880 new COVID-19 cases, positivity rate 20%

Mizoram reported 880 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, which was 633 less than the previous day, a health official said. On Tuesday, the state had reported 1,513 cases, the highest single-day rise in three months. The death toll rose to 564 as two more persons died in the last 24 hours, the official said. Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Tuesday tried to calm Israelis anxious about the rapid spread of the omicron variant, insisting the government is managing the crisis better than most and ruling out a national shutdown. Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: Amid COVID-19 surge, Gujarat govt puts cap on attendees at weddings, other events

With Gujarat witnessing a sudden spike in new coronavirus cases, the state government on Tuesday announced that a maximum of 150 persons will be allowed to attend social, religious or political events, including wedding functions. The decision to put a cap on participation at such events was taken by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel after reviewing the current coronavirus situation during a core committee meeting in Gandhinagar, said an official release. So far, 400 persons were allowed to attend social, religious, educational, political or cultural events, including weddings in the state. But now, the limit on participation has been reduced to just 150. As per the release, the new curb will remain in place across the state till 6 am of January 22. – PTI

India's COVID-19 vaccination coverage crossed 153.7 crore on Tuesday with 76,68,282 vaccine doses being administered till 7 pm, the Union Health Ministry said. More than 18 lakh (18,52,611) precaution doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to healthcare workers, frontline workers and those aged 60 and above with comorbidities since Monday. Over 2,81,00,780 doses have been given to beneficiaries in the 15-18 years age group so far. The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late night. The countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 with healthcare workers (HCWs) getting inoculated in the first phase. Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: Arunachal imposes night curfew, other COVID restrictions till Jan 31

In view of an upsurge in COVID-19 cases, the Arunachal Pradesh government on Tuesday imposed night curfew and other restrictions till January 31. Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, in an order, said that night curfew will be imposed from 9 PM to 5 AM from January 12. All government and private schools shall remain closed till January 31, while online classes will be held on working days, it said. Universities, colleges and technical institutions were advised to regulate the timing of their classes with 50 per cent attendance and adherence to COVID protocols. Only fully vaccinated people from other states will be allowed to enter Arunachal Pradesh, it said. Offices, bars, restaurants, gymnasiums, public transport, swimming polls and cinema halls will operate with 50 per cent capacity, while business establishments whose proprietors and staffers have been fully vaccinated can operate till 8 PM, the order stated. – PTI

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: 23 die of Covid in Delhi, positivity rate 25.65 pc; private offices closed

Delhi logged 23 COVID-19 fatalities on Tuesday, the highest since June 16, and the positivity rate rose to 25.65 per cent with the government directing closure of all private offices, except those in exempted categories. According to data shared by the health department, 21,259 cases were reported on Tuesday, the highest single-day infection since May 1. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that his government had to impose restrictions out of compulsion but a complete lockdown will not be implemented. Noting that it is difficult to predict when the third wave of infections will peak, Kejriwal said the Centre's representatives have assured the Delhi government that Covid-related curbs imposed in the capital will be replicated across the NCR. – PTI

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: Record 1,550 fresh Covid cases in HP, active ones 5,476

Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday recorded 1,550 fresh COVID-19 cases, raising the tally of active cases to 5,476 from 4,186 and total number of infections till date to 2,34,835, a Health Department official said. The Covid toll, however, remained pegged at 3,867 as no death was reported on Tuesday, he added. The highest number of 325 new cases were found in Kangra, followed by 287 in Solan, 270 in Hamirpur, 153 in Shimla, 148 in Mandi, 117 in Una, 89 in Kullu, 73 in Bilaspur, 47 in Sirmaur, 27 in Chamba, 12 in Kinnaur and two in Lahaul-Spiti, he added. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state climbed to 5,476 from 4,186 on Monday, the official said. Besides, 258 more patients recovered from the viral disease. With this, the total number of recoveries in Himachal Pradesh stands at 2,25,462, he said. PTI

Uttar Pradesh reported 11,089 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising the tally of active cases in the state to 44,466 while five more deaths pushed the overall death toll to 22,937, an official statement said. Covid curfew, between 11 PM and 5 AM daily, will be in force from January 18 to 31 in Andhra Pradesh, a Government Order said here on Tuesday. Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: Sikkim logs 198 new COVID-19 cases, tally at 33,029

Sikkim on Tuesday reported 198 new COVID-19 cases, 86 more than the previous day, with the tally rising to 33,029, a health department official said. Ten people – six from Kolkata and four from Delhi – tested positive for the disease after they arrived at Pakyong airport near here, he said. They were allowed to return to their places for treatment, the official said. Eleven more travellers were also found infected with the disease at the Rangpo checkpost, and all of them were permitted to undergo treatment at their native places, he said. Speaking at tech giant Microsoft's annual flagship event, Future Ready, he said it should be a national priority to enable access to healthcare and education using digital infrastructure for all in the country, considering how the acceleration of digital adoption during the pandemic has created a divide as many people, who do not have the means and access, have been left behind. “There are many things going for India. I think as the economy fully opens up post the pandemic, I believe that our growth will continue to get stronger. We'll get the full benefit of the consumer spend,” Chandrasekaran said. (PTI)

The Delhi government on Tuesday issued an advisory asking all hospitals to ensure that Covid-positive patients with comorbidities are duly attended by specialists.     Amid rise in the coronavirus cases, the Delhi government has taken action against 4,434 people on Monday for not wearing masks in public or work places, according to official data. The data stated that 4,434 people were challaned for violation of masks, 107 for not maintaining social distancing, 17 people for spitting in public places and two for consumption of liquor/pan/gutkha/tobacco etc., in public places in its 11 districts.     Coronavirus Live Tracker: Pondy clocks 655 new COVID-19 cases

    Puducherry registered a spike in number of daily cases of coronavirus on Tuesday with 655 infections being added afresh to the overall tally which reached 1,31,866. The test positivity rate in the Union Territory however dropped to 16.51 percent against 31.15 percent recorded on Monday, a release from Director of Health and Family Welfare Services G. Sriramulu said. The 655 fresh cases were identified at the end of examination of 3967 samples and the cases were spread over Puducherry 535, Karaikal 93 and Mahe 27. (PTI)
