    MeitY working on cabinet note for proposed Data Protection Bill

    Synopsis

    “The Cabinet will decide on the final provisions,” says a senior official. MeitY will work on drafting the final language of the bill once it receives cabinet approval. The Personal Data Protection Bill 2019 is a marquee piece of legislation.

    New Delhi: The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) is preparing a formal note for the Union Cabinet on the proposed Data Protection Bill, officials aware of the matter told ET. The bill, which was appended to the Joint Committee of Parliament (JCP) report, will be discussed in the Cabinet before it is placed for discussion in the upcoming Budget Session of the Parliament.
