
Pune Highlights: Maharashtra on Monday recorded 33,470 new Covid-19 cases, of which 5,608 cases were seen in the Pune region. Two deaths were seen in the city. Of the 31 new cases of the Omicron variant recorded in the state, 28 were reported from Pune city.
Amid rising Covid-19 cases, the Maharashtra police force has reported a tenfold rise in daily Covid cases since the new year began. Testing of police personnel has been ramped up and additional precautionary measures are being put in place as the police force gears for yet another wave in the pandemic.
Meanwhile, around 70 healthcare workers, including at least 10 resident doctors, at the Pune’s B J Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital are currently infected with Covid-19, authorities said.
Four-year-old Prashvi Maheshwari of Global Indian International School, Hadapsar in Pune has made it to the India Book of Records for performing the maximum number of spins (178) of hula hoop in a minute.
The LKG student started learning the hoop at the age of 3.5 as a fun and playful activity. Her parents then realised that she had the potential to do better. Looking at her talent and interest, her parents approached the India Books of Records (IBR). She went on to break the record in her second attempt itself and received a certificate, medal and a batch from India Book of Records. Her parents said they were thankful to the school for encouraging her interest in extracurricular activities.
The Conciliation Forum formed under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (RERA) and Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) to facilitate disputes between homebuyers and developers amicably to save cost and time of litigation has been proving beneficial as around 351 cases have been settled in Pune so far.
As a part of the regulatory body, the Conciliation Forum was formed in March 2018 to enable the disputed parties to connect and also appear before the expert conciliators to resolve their problems, clear doubts and mitigate misunderstandings.
The forum consists of representatives from CREDAI-Pune Metro, Mumbai Grahak Panchayat, a leading consumer body and other promoters’ associations.
Around 70 healthcare workers, including at least 10 resident doctors, at the city’s B J Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital are currently infected with Covid-19, authorities said. A majority of them are asymptomatic and are expected to recover soon.
Authorities said normal services at the hospital have not been disrupted.
“We are managing both Covid and non-Covid duties… Their seven-day period of isolation will soon be completed and they will join duties,” an official at the hospital said. Read more

A man who worked as a life guard at a swimming pool run by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) died by suicide at his residence in Mundhwa on Sunday night.
Police have identified the deceased as Datta Shankar Pushilkar (41). He resided with his mother at Keshav Nagar in Mundhwa.
Police said Pushilkar used to work as a lifeguard at a swimming pool near Balgandharva Auditorium. Read more
Even as the Centre has scrapped levying of vehicle-entry fee on commercial vehicles on the terrain of various Cantonment boards, the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) continues to charge the vehicles, arguing that it has not received any such order from the Directorate of Defence Estates, which falls under the Ministry of Defence.
The Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) and the Dehu Road Cantonment Board (DCB), though, have scrapped the charges with immediate effect. Read more
Decorated war hero Lieutenant Colonel Shrikant Sitaram Hasabnis, 90, passed away on Sunday after a long battle with heart and lung infections.
An alumnus of the first course of the National Defence Academy and Defence Services Staff College, he served in the Indian Army for 25 years.
Fondly referred to as Nana, Lt Col Hasabnis’s 5 Jat battalion was the first plains troops unit to be inducted in Ladakh, in early 1962, to relieve the exclusively hills troops units then deployed in the high-altitude northern borders. Read more
An FIR has been filed at the Vimantal police station in Pune after unidentified persons allegedly forwarded emails to four top officials of Bajaj Finserv, including its managing director Sanjiv Bajaj, and demanded Rs 11. 63 crore in Dogecoin cryptocurrency as they threatened to hack the company’s data and cause heavy losses if the amount was not paid.

Amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in Pune, 232 police personnel have contracted the infection here in Maharashtra since January 3 this year, an official said on Monday.
Only two police personnel are currently admitted in hospital, while the remaining are in home isolation, the official said.
'Out of these 232 infected people, over 30 are police officers and the remaining are other personnel,' he said.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Pune in March 2020, a total of 2,670 police personnel have so far tested positive for the infection, he said. Read more
The Pune city police on Sunday night issued executive orders imposing a night curfew between 11 pm and 5 am and restrictions on gatherings between 5 am to 11 pm from Monday in their jurisdiction to tackle the Covid-19 surge.
The executive order for the Pune city police jurisdiction was issued by joint police commissioner Ravindra Shisve and states that those violating it will be charged under Indian Penal Code section 188 and various provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act and other laws in force.
The order states that night curfew will be in force from 11 pm to 5 am.

The Pune city police on Sunday seized banned tobacco products worth Rs 46 lakh. Acting on a tip-off to sub-inspector Avinash Shinde, a team of Hadapsar police station laid a trap and intercepted a truck on the Pune Solapur highway.
The truck was allegedly transporting banned gutkha products from Karnataka to a godown in the Fursungi area near Hadapsar.
Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) officer Anil Gavate lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Hadapsar police station.

The Pune Rural Police on Sunday stepped in and stopped the marriage of a 16-year-old girl with a 22-year-old man at a village in Shirur Taluka.
The “Bharosa Cell” of the rural police, which provides counselling and aid to children, women and elderly people, received information on Saturday from Childline India that a 16-year-old girl was getting married at a village in Shirur taluka, which is around 80 km from Pune city. The wedding was scheduled to take place on Sunday afternoon.
