NZ Vs BAN, 2nd Test: Trent Boult's 5/43 Blows Away Bangladesh For 126, New Zealand Take 395-Run Lead - Highlights

Trent Boult claimed his ninth five-wicket haul as his 5/43 blew away Bangladesh for 126 in the first innings of the second Test match against New Zealand at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. New Zealand have taken a huge lead of 395 runs at stumps on Day 2. It remains to be seen whether New Zealand enforce the follow-on or will they give Ross Taylor a chance to bat one last time in Test cricket on Day 3 morning. In reply to New Zealand's mammoth 521/6 declared, the visiting batters never looked in control as they were reduced to 27/5 at one stage. Thereafter Nurul Hasan and Yasir Ali stitched together 60 runs for the sixth wicket. The dismissal of Nurul once again triggered the collapse as Bangladesh were bowled out in 41.2 overs. Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson took three and two wickets respectively.  Earlier, Devon Conway completed his hundred on the first ball of the day while Tom Latham brought up his double ton as New Zealand added 172 runs before declaring. Bangladesh have already created a slice of history by stunning New Zealand in the first Test at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. 11:08 AM IST: Day 2 stumps

Bangladesh have been bowled out for 126. Trent Boult rattles Shoriful Islam's stumps and the Kiwi claims his ninth five-wicket haul. Earlier, Kyle Jamieson dismissed Yasir Ali for 55. New Zealand take a 395-run lead. Stumps have been drawn.  

10:40 AM: Double blow

Bangladesh have lost Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed in quick succession. Trent Boult got Mehidy while Kyle Jamieson removed Taskin. Yasir Ali (50), is now top scorer for BAN after Nurul Hasan. He is fast running out of partners. Bangladesh totter at 121 for eight wickets after 39 overs and trail by 400 runs. This is becoming too one-sided. Follow live scores and updates here.  

10:22 AM: Yasir Ali fights

Yasir Ali (39) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (5) are trying to put up a partnership. Yasir has even taken a nasty blow on his helmet but is fine. Bangladesh still have to face another 15 overs and that's going to be quite a challenge. The question is whether New Zealand will enforce the follow-on or give the retiring Ross Taylor one more chance to bat in a Test match. BAN  106 for 6 after 34 overs.

10:10 AM: BAN cross 100

A tottering Bangladesh crossed the 100-mark but they have lost Nurul Hasan for 41. Hasan, Bangladesh's top scorer so far, was trapped LBW by Tim Southee.  Both Trent Boult and Tim Southee have taken three wickets each. BAN are 103 for six wickets in the 33rd over and trail by 418 runs.  Follow highlights here. 

9:21 AM IST: BAN cross 50

Bangladesh cross 50-run mark. Nurul Hasan (18*) and Yasir Ali (23*) are battling out for Bangladesh in the middle. Bangladesh 60/5, still trail by 461 runs.    

8:35 AM IST: BAN 5 down

Oh dear! Make that five. Bangladesh has lost Liton Das, caught by Tom Blundell behind. Trent Boult gets his third. Bangladesh are half of the side down for just 27 runs on board. This is a completely different Bangladesh from what it were in the first Test. They failed utterly in the bowling yesterday and now in the batting. Nurul Hasan and Yasir Ali are in the middle.    

8:14 AM IST: BAN in trouble

Bangladesh are in real trouble here, after Trent Boult and Tim Southee cleaned up the top four in no time. In reply to New Zealand's mammoth 521/6, Bangladesh have lost Shadman Islam, Mohammad Naim, Najmul Hossain Shanto and skipper  Mominul Haque for single digits. Bangladesh 11/4

8:10 AM IST: NZ pile more

After finishing Day 1 at 349/1, Tom Latham completed his double century while Devin Conway scored his second consecutive ton in this series as New Zealand added 172 more runs before declaring. Latham and Conway were dismissed for 252 and 109 respectively. Tom Blundell scored 57 down the order.  

Bangladesh bowlers, who had scripted a memorable in the first Test at Bay Oval, were sent on a leather hunt on Day 1 of the second New Zealand vs Bangladesh Test in Christchurch on Sunday. New Zealand lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a lively Hagley Oval wicket. Home team skipper Tom Latham and his top order responded beautifully.

Tom Latham, unbeaten on 186, stitched two major partnerships as New Zealand kept piling the runs against a Bangladesh attack that looked docile at times and the fielding leaky.

Putting on 148 for the first wicket with Will Young (54), Tom Latham was accompanied by Devon Conway, who was on run shy of his third Test century when stumps were drawn. Latham's 12th Test hundred, studded with 28 boundaries, came off a 278-ball stay in the middle.

Bangladesh were bereft of ideas with the ball, and not backed up in the field, ruing missed opportunities. Litton Das dropped Young after the lunch break, and the batting pair moved to the 100-run stand, the first opening partnership of three figures in the first innings of a Test in New Zealand since 2012.

Bangladesh were also not lucky with the DRS on Sunday. Ebadot Hossain, who was Bangladesh’s man of the match in the first Test for his six wickets in the New Zealand second innings, came into the attack in the ninth over on Sunday and had Tom Latham out lbw with his second and fifth deliveries. In both cases the on-field umpire upheld Ebadot’s appeal and Latham had those decisions reviewed and overturned.
