    In an age of ordering food in, biryani’s gain is the thali’s loss

    The biggest loser might be the traditional Indian thali meal. Both biryani and thali provide a complete meal, but the former does it all together in one delivery friendly packet.

    Whether this is the beginning of the end of the epidemic or a grim new normal, ordering in seems likely to ensure that food delivery will remain important.

    A recent report on the most ordered foods by Indians in 2021 throws up few surprises: We love samosas most as a snack, though by late night, French fries are also common. And as always, biryani was the most popular dish, with 115 orders per minute — biryanisper-minute might now be an accepted Indian metric!
