The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday registered an FIR against 10 members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), including some former ministers, for organising a rally in Bijbehara on the death anniversary of former chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayed in violation of Covid-19 norms.
The FIR (first information report) was registered by the executive magistrate of Bijbehara, in southern Kashmir. Among those booked are former minister Abdul Rehman Veeri, former legislator Sartaj Madni, and party spokesperson Najmu Saqib. Madni is PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti's maternal uncle.
Mehbooba Mufti lashed out at the administration for selectively targeting the PDP. "Covid-19 restrictions apply only to PDP? Not to BJP's protest in Kashmir?" said Mufti.
