The government will take “big and tough” decisions after gathering all the information regarding the lapse in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security in Punjab, Union minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur said Thursday.

“Some people have gone to the Supreme Court as well, and they are looking at it. The Home Ministry has also mentioned they will take action. After gathering information, whatever big and tough decisions have to be taken, they will do that. Whenever there is a breach like this, then whatever steps have to be taken will be taken,” he said.

Thakur said the judiciary in the country “ensures justice for everyone”.

PM Modi’s cavalcade was stuck for 15 to 20 minutes at a flyover in Ferozepur on Wednesday as farm protestors blocked the route. The PM was headed to the National Martyrs Memorial at the Hussainiwala border with Pakistan.
BJP has accused the Congress government in Punjab of endangering the Prime Minister’s safety, though state Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has maintained there was no security threat.

Thakur was also asked about the Opposition’s demand to reduce fuel prices in the country. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had put out a tweet with the demand Wednesday, as international price of crude oil has come down. In response, the Union minister took a jibe at Gandhi, who is abroad. “All I will say is that if Rahul Gandhi is back in the country, he should look at the prices in Punjab and Rajasthan, both governed by the Congress, what is the difference, and how much they have reduced.”
