Benchmark NSE Nifty closed 120.0 points up at 17925.25 amid buying in frontline bluechip counters.
However, stocks such as Spandana Sphoorty, Star Health, Mas Fin Services, McDowell Hold and Lumax Ind, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 34 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 16 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Kotak Bank, JSW Steel and Grasim Inds. were among top gainers during the day, while Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HCL Tech, Divis Labs and Wipro ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 367.22 points up at 60223.15.
Traders piled up positions in Telecommunications, Metals - Ferrous, Consumer Durables, Banks and NBFC sectors, while selling was witnessed in Miscellaneous, Learning & Education, Services, Sugar and Airlines sectors during the day.
