Channi expressed regret that the PM had to return.

"We had asked them (PMO) to discontinue the visit due to bad weather conditions and protests. We had no information of his (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) sudden route change. There was no security lapse during the PM visit," Channi said at a press conference.

"If there were any security lapses during PM Modi's visit today, then we will conduct an inquiry. There was no danger to the prime minister," Channi added.

At 3 pm today, the news broke that the PM had abandoned plans to attend a rally in Ferozpur.

At the event, union Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced on stage that Modi would not make it "due to some reasons."
