Amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the city, the Karnataka government has decided to impose certain new restrictions in Bengaluru. According to reports, the fresh COVID-19 curbs in Bengaluru will be implemented from 10 pm on January 5, 2022.

The COVID-19 curbs implemented in Bengaluru include the closure of schools in the city and the imposition of a weekend curfew. These new guidelines will remain in place in the city for the next two weeks, according to the Karnataka government.

The people coming from places with a high number of COVID-19 cases such as Maharashtra, Goa, and Kerala will have to submit a negative RT-PCR upon arrival. The new COVID-19 restrictions by the Karnataka government will remain in place till January 21.

Other restrictions imposed in Bengaluru amid the recent COVID-19 surge include the reduction of capacity allowed in cinema halls, restaurants, pubs and bars, and wedding functions. Check out the detailed guidelines issued by the Karnataka government below.

Bengaluru COVID-19 guidelines: Important points

  • Physical classes in schools have been suspended for all classes apart from students of classes 10 and 12.
  • Weekend curfew has been imposed in Bengaluru from 10 pm on Friday to 5 am on Monday.
  • These new COVID-19 restrictions will remain in place for two weeks, till January 21.
  • Only 50 percent of seating capacity will be allowed in restaurants, pubs, bars, cinema halls, and other public places.
  • 200 people are allowed in weddings if conducted in open spaces, while 100 people will be allowed in closed wedding venues.
  • All travellers from Goa, Maharashtra, and Kerala will have to submit a negative RT-PCR test on arrival

According to the release of the Karnataka government, the state recorded a total of 2,479 infections and four deaths, taking the cumulative infections and fatalities to 30,13,326 and 38,355 respectively. The government imposed these restrictions due to the surge witnessed in the state, as well as the country.

Apart from this, the Karnataka government will be following the international travel restrictions placed by the central government in view of the spread of the Omicron variant.
