Live News updates: India reported 37,379 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, the health ministry said on Tuesday, the most since early September as the variant overtakes Delta in places such as the capital New Delhi. Deaths rose by 124 to reach a total of 482,017. Total infections stand at 34.96 million.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said this morning he has tested positive for Covid-19 and is isolating himself.  Delhi on Monday reported 4,099 new infections of Coviv-19 recorded in the last 24 hours. At least 10,000 fresh Covid cases have been logged in the last three days in the city.

India faces a third wave of the pandemic, with a large chunk of cases being reported in big cities, the head of the country's vaccine task force told NDTV on Monday.
