India vs South Africa (IND vs SA) 2nd Test, Day 1 Live Score Online Streaming Updates: India slipped to 53-3 at lunch Monday on the opening day of the second Test against South Africa, a troublesome morning for the tourists that began with captain Virat Kohli being ruled out of the game with a back injury.
Fast bowler Duanne Olivier took 2-27 โ his wickets coming on consecutive balls โ to give South Africa the edge in the opening session. Olivier was playing his first test in three years after seemingly abandoning his international career to play county cricket in England.
Duanne Olivier got the wickets Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane on back-to-back deliveries to put the hosts in the driver’s seat. Rahane was Olivier’s 50th Test wicket. Olivier is the second-quickest to get the 50 Test wickets in terms of balls after Vernon Philander (1254 balls) since the 1900. Olivier took 1486 balls to achieve the feat.
Earlier, Virat Kohli has been ruled out of the second Test due to a back spasm and that means KL Rahul will be leading the Indian team at Johannesburg. The ‘Bull Ring’ has been a bastion for the Indian team and Kohli, and his boys will eye a positive start in 2022 when they take on an out-of-sorts South Africa in the second Test from Monday. Quinton de Kock’s sudden retirement has put South Africa in another tough spot but 25-year-old Ryan Rickleton, the dashing keeper-batter, will look to fill up the gap.

South Africa's session without any doubt. Wickets at the regular intervals have halted India after Agarwal and Rahul played the first hour comfortably. Duane Olivier got his rhythm back in his second spell and got back-to-back wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara (3) and Ajinkya Rahane (0) to put hosts in the driver's seat at the lunch on Day 1 of the 2nd Test match at Johannesburg. IND: 53/3 after 26 overs
A back-to-back wicket for Duanne Olivier. Ajinkya Rahane is gone for a duck. Wicket No for 50 for the South Africa pacer, who is playing his first Test after the gap of four years. It was back of a length and well wide of the off stump, Rahane poked it tentatively and Keegan Petersen took a sharp catch at the third slip. IND: 49/3 after 23.4 overs
Extra bounce and Olivier gets the wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara, his woeful form continues. It was a short of length outside off, Pujara was looking to defend, the ball hit the shoulder of the bat and Bavuma accepted a dolly at the point. IND: 49/2 after 23.3 overs
KL Rahul hits India's first boundary in 78 balls. It was a rare half-volley from Olivier and Rahul makes the most of it. He leans into the drive and pushes it back past the non-striker for a boundary. It has been a probing hour for the Indian batters. Proteas pacers are asking questions consistently. IND: 45/1 after 22 overs
Cheteshwar Pujara, who has been under the scanner, has made a streaky start in the second Test against South Africa. India's No 3 has survived a few closed saves. The 33-year-old has not scored a Test century for 3 years now. His last Test century came in January 2019, during India's historic series win in Australia. IND: 40/1 after 21 overs
Three inside edge as of now from Pujara. Twice went towards the right of RVD and this time just a little left. Steep bounce from Olivier and that almost gets Pujara. Good start by India but after Mayank's wicket, SA have wrested some control back and there is lots of pressure on Rahul. IND: 40/1 after 20 overs
South Africa have their 1st breakthrough as Mayank Agarawal is dismissed off the first ball after the drinks break. He nicks Jansen behind for an easy catch to Verreynne. IND: 36/1 after 14.1 overs
One hour into the Test and the home team is yet to get a breakthrough. Mayank Agarwal (26*) and Rahul (9*) are in the middle. Lungi Ngidi asking the relevant questions with the ball. Ngidi is looking like a handful, but KL and Mayank have been watchful. Four bowlers used by South Africa inside the opening hour says they haven't bowled well enough so far. IND: 36/0 after 14 overs
Rahul gets two boundaries in two. An on-drive followed by an outside edge which didn't carry to the slips. However, his bat, which is without a sponsor is drawing a lot of attention on social media. "The last time I remember an established batter with a blank bat was Michael Clarke when he scored 329*. If KL can do something even close to that, it’ll be amazing," says Vishy on social media. IND: 28/0 after 8 overs
The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Jasprit Bumrah as vice-captain for the 2nd Test. Team India batsman Shreyas Iyer was also ruled out of selection for the 2nd Test owing to a stomach bug.
Duanne Olivier is introduced into the attack and Mayank straightaway gets into the act. This has been the trademark of Mayank's batsmanship when he opens the batting across formats... initially, with his attacking play, he takes off the pressure from his partner so they can take a bit of time & settle. South Africa’s bowlers need to break the opening partnership with the new ball. In the previous encounter, it was the opening stand that set the tone of the match. IND: 14/0 after 4 overs
Time for national anthems and the bell has been rung. South Africa takes the knee while Indians stand, hand on heart. Let's play! Rahul and Mayank are at the crease. Rahul is on strike. Rabada will open the attack and its a quiet first over! A maiden to begin.

"Kohli missing out It doesn't really bother me, we have got a Test match to play. Two changes: Kyle Verryenne comes in for QdK and Duanne Olivier for Mulder. Losing Quinny is never ideal. He has been a big player for us. Losing any big player is never ideal. We have a lot of talent in our squad and we need to back them. There were a lot of good things you can speak about at Centurion. You need to be fair to the environment. a lot of positives and good conversations for us to take out of that."
"Unfortunately, Virat has had an upper back spasm and hopefully, he'll recover for the next Test. It is every Indian player's dream to captain his country. Really honoured and looking forward to this challenge. We have had a few good wins here and hopefully, we'll look to continue that. Hanuma Vihari comes in place of Virat. Just the one change. It was a good Test at Centurion overall. We really performed well as a team and are really excited about this match."
India have won the toss and have opted to bat. KL Rahul has won the toss and India will bat first in the second Test in Johannesburg. Indian skipper Virat Kohli misses the match with an upper back spasm.
KL Rahul is walking out for toss right now, Virat is not playing!
If Ishant Sharma gets to play in the XI then he will become the 26th Indian player to play 200 matches in International cricket. But the question is will he get to play?
