Imphal, December 26 2021: The Manipur People's Democratic Front (MPDF) has strongly condemned the murder of a young student in Heirok by some armed individuals who also grievously injured the deceased's father recently and asked the State Government to take full responsibility of the bestial act.
In a statement, the MPDF also asked the law enforcing agency to submit the exact report of the case to the Court concerned so as to reward a befitting punishment to all the assailants under Section 302 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code (45 of 1860) as soon as possible.
It also claimed that President Rule should be imposed in Manipur as the Government here has failed to control poll related violence and instances of firing, intimidation have transpired even before the election schedule is announced.
It is high time the Central Government intervenes to calm the volatile atmosphere here, the front demanded.
Saying that every voter has the liberty to choose their candidate as per the law, the front urged all politicians and their workers to shun intimidating electors so as to carry out free and fair elections.
Every politician and party worker who use violent tactics such as arson, firing and other modes of criminal activity to threaten their rivals should all be punished as per the law, the MPDF asserted.
"If election is to be carried out at the cost of human lives than it is better to indefinitely postpone the democratic exercise," the statement continued and asserted that the volatile situation here can be controlled only when the guilties be it MLA, Ministers or mere party workers are rewarded appropriate penalties for their misdemeanors.
