JAIPUR: Project Wheelchair Convertible into Crutch, which was created by Mahesh Jat (16), a Class X student at government senior secondary school in Rorawat in Sawai Madhopur, has been selected for Inspire award by the central government's department of science and technology (DST) announced recently. The project is one of the 10,019 selected models for the award.
Jat will receive one-time assistance of Rs 10,000 from the DST and technical assistance from the state.
"My wheelchair easily converts into crutches by folding it twice. It is aimed to help the wheelchair users to convert into a crutch to help the user cross bad roads/streets," said Jat.
He was working on the idea for the past two years. "I am sure to see my project in reality in the coming years. Once I am done with my examinations, I will work on the actual model with the grant and help from the state," said Jat, who aspires to become an engineer.
Rajasthan has the highest number of students qualified for the award in the present year.
The award is based on innovative ideas in the field of science & technology submitted by the students in upper primary and secondary Classes (6-10).
The notable ideas submitted by students include, body temperature scanning equipment, a tool to decongest supply chain management and IT solutions for government departments.
Nine hundred ninety three students from Jaipur have qualified for the award making it of the best performing cities in the country. Every school has been asked to submit a maximum of five ideas to the DST.
