Seminar on Manipuri literature concludes

Imphal, December 23 2021: The two-day long national seminar on 'A journey of Manipuri Literature: past, present and future' organised by the directorate of language planning and implementation at the court hall of vice chancellor of Manipur University concluded on Thursday.
Director (language planning & implementation) Th Chitra, who attended as chief guest of the closing function, said that language is most important for human beings and hence it needs to be strengthened.
Manipuri language is one of the richest languages of India and the people of Manipur are proud of it but this language needs to be developed further and hence the directorate is planning to organise language festival every year.
Experts in the field and stakeholders will discuss soon to organise the festival, she added.
Dr N Sanatomba, who was convener of the national seminar attended by experts from Manipur and outside, said that the seminar was organised for the first time as it is necessary to understand the journey of the rich Manipuri literature.
Writer Saratchand Thiyam, who moderated the seminar, said that it was appreciative that the state directorate of language planning and implementation organised a national seminar on Manipuri literature with a courageous spirit.
He also said that different programmes need to be taken up to develop Manipuri language and people of the state should be proud of having a separate language directorate to develop languages.
Altogether 12 scholars from Manipur and outside presented papers on different topics, during the seminar.
