Now games are going to be disabled after a software update

Tesla has removed games from its cars after a probe by the US NHTSA which opened a safety investigation on 580,000 vehicles which it has sold since 2017. The main issue here is the fact that Tesla has added games in the main infotainment screen on the front which is next to the driver which is safety. The feature dubbed "Passenger Play" is considered to be something that may distract the drivers and now it is being disabled via a software update.

"The NHTSA constantly assesses how manufacturers identify and safeguard against distraction hazards that may arise due to faults, misuse or intended use of convenience technologies, including infotainment screens," the agency said.

The new Tesla cars can play triple-A games like the Witcher

Tesla has already been under the pump for its implementation of autopilot which is technically an ADAS system but promoted like a self-driving autonomous system by Tesla founder, Elon Musk. Recently, Tesla even added AMD RDNA 2 GPUs in the latest edition of the Model S which would enable the infotainment screen to run games that one would typically play on video game consoles like the PS5.

It has been stated that this feature could be dangerous if the driver is distracted and that's why Tesla is pushing a software update. That being said, Tesla has now dedicated engineering teams that have been developing games and a video game platform for its cars, so chances are that the world's most valuable automaker will lobby against what the NHTSA is doing.
