After Seroja, Kalbarri tourism businesses still recuperating the losses

Published on : Saturday, December 25, 2021

It’s been almost eight months that Cyclone Seroja tore apart the Mid West holiday township of Kalbarri. Still the town bears the blemishes of the fury of the cyclone.

A drive along the foreshore unveils pictures of damaged hotels, tarps on private house roofs, and security fencing barring entry to smashed up properties.

Many people are irritated at lengthy hold-ups with insurance companies accepting building quotes and complexities in securing and accommodating builders.

In the meantime, tourism operators are anxious reopening borders will mean another blow for tourism as vacationers once again plan to travel abroad.

For business, those who are open can expect a busy Christmas holiday season in the front and look forward to having international visitors see the new Kalbarri Skywalk for the first time.
