ICAR celebrates National Mushroom Day, National Farmers Day

Imphal, December 23 2021: National Mushroom Day was celebrated at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-North Eastern Hill Region (ICAR-NEH) Manipur Centre today.
The National Mushroom Day 2021 was held under the theme "Mushroom for Complete Agro-waste Management" where around ten 10 entrepreneurs from both valley and hill districts of Manipur exhibited their products, technologies and innovation, said a press release issued by ICAR-NEH, Manipur Centre.
The three best mushroom exhibitors were given the awards on this occasion and the event was participated by a total of 65 farmers, entrepreneurs and mushroom growers from all over the state.
Speaking as the chief guest, K Debadutta Sharma, Mission Director, MIDH & Project Director, MOVCD-NER addressed the need of mushroom production in the State and value addition through formation of mushroom growers federation so that the quality and marketing value can be improved.

He also acknowledged the contribution of the ICAR Manipur centre in developing the short term button mushroom composting technology and 'Shiitake mushroom' production technology with paddy straw composting technique invented by the Manipur Centre.
He further mentioned that the Horticulture Department has been organising different training programmes in association with ICAR and appealed to all the interested farmers to approach through the DOs concerned for attending the same.
Dr I Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director of ICAR Manipur Centre emphasized on the importance of the mushroom to enhance the farmers' income even to the landless farmers and housewives.
He further requested the participants to be involved in production of new ventures like button and Shiitake mushrooms using the new technology and assured of assistance from ICAR in providing the requisites, added the press release.
