A day after Madhya Pradesh announced a night curfew, the Uttar Pradesh government also imposed a night curfew amid the Omicron scare on Friday, December 24.
The night curfew shall be followed from December 25 and will start at 11 pm and end at 5 am. Moreover, the state government has also announced additional restrictions wherein not more than 200 people are allowed to attend weddings and social events.
On Thursday, the Allahabad High Court requested the Election Commission to stop political rallies given the surge in Omicron Covid-19 variant cases in India. The Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are slated to be held in the month of February to March 2022.
Earlier on Thursday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan announced a night curfew in the state. The curfew has been effective immediately from 11 pm to 5 am.
Omicron cases in India
On Friday, the total number of Omicron cases in India has surged to 358, as per the data released by the Union Health Ministry of India. Maharashtra has topped with 88 cases of the new variant of concern in Delhi, the second most-affected state is Delhi with 67 Omicron cases, Telangana with 38 cases, Tamil Nadu with 34, and Karnataka with 31 Omicron cases.
On Thursday, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi reviewed the Omicron Covis-19 situation in the country and urged the citizens to be cautious and vigilant amid the highly transmissible Covid-19 variant outbreak.
The PMO had said in a statement that the fight against the pandemic is still going on and it is of utmost importance to continue adherence to Covid-19 appropriate behaviour.
