Sports with learning in focus at Delhi's new school hub: Manish Sisodia

Being constructed over 11.6 acres, the school will have 240 classrooms and 13 fully equipped labs (eight for STEM and five for humanities). The hub would also have an Olympic-sized swimming pool with both heating and cooling facilities. The pool would be of 50mx25m length and width to allow many children to practice together. There would be four libraries for primary and senior secondary classes.
“This school will be different from the usual ones as the entire premises will be used in the learning process of children. Its smart classrooms will be suitable for digital learning and have all the facilities to provide for the needs of children,” added Sisodia.
With sports being an integral part of the hub, there would be four multipurpose courts and 12 badminton courts. A common gymnastics area would also be prepared. For holding events, an auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,000 people would be created. A multipurpose hall with a capacity of 250 people would also be built.
“After the school is completed, children will bring laurels to India from all over. Our responsibility to provide facilities in schools is not marked by magnificent buildings alone, but by the hard work of students and teachers,” said Sisodia.
Another school is being built at Mehram Nagar with similar sports facilities and 52 classrooms. This year, Delhi government established 20 Schools of Specialised Excellence to provide four specialisations — STEM, performing and visual arts, humanities and high-end 21st century skills.
