New Delhi, December 21

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the Opposition would not rest until Minister of State (Home) Ajay Mishra was sent to jail for alleged conspiracy to kill farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3.

Stir to continue

The Opposition will continue its agitation until Ajay Mishra is jailed. The PM will have to sack him like he repealed the farm laws. — Rahul Gandhi, Congress Leader

He was speaking after the Opposition parties marched from Mahatma Gandhi statue to Vijay Chowk to protest the continuation of Mishra in the Union Cabinet despite the Uttar Pradesh SIT concluding that his son Ashish had allegedly killed farmers in a “pre-planned manner”.

“We will continue our agitation until Ajay Mishra is jailed. The PM will have to sack him like he repealed the farm laws,” said Gandhi.

He earlier accused the government and the media of “not doing their job.”

Noting that the Opposition was united in demanding justice for the victims of Lakhimpur Kheri violence, Gandhi said, “On one hand, the Prime Minister apologises to farmers and, on the other, he keeps the minister who allegedly conspired to run over farmers in the Cabinet.”

Tiruchi Siva of the DMK, Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena, CPI’s Binoy Viswan and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge participated in the match.
