
The Winter Session of Parliament will resume on Tuesday, a day after the Lok Sabha passed the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill amid massive protests by the Opposition. The law that makes amendments to the electoral laws to allow linking of Aadhaar to the voter ID, will be taken up in the Rajya Sabha today.
This comes amid an impasse over the suspension of 12 Opposition MPs for "unruly behaviour". The Opposition has rebuffed government efforts to initiate talks to reach an understanding, calling it a stunt. The Opposition have also protesting over various other issues, including the Lakhimpur Kheri violence in UP in which some farmers were killed.

Changes in the electoral law, including allowing the linking of Aadhaar to the voter IDs, are set for a Rajya Sabha debate today. With the opposition raising a strong protest and demanding a review, the government has detailed its arguments in a note. Read here.
Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said at the BJP's parliamentary party meeting that the parties opposing the electoral reforms law were part of the same standing committee that recommended the legislation.

The BJP Parliamentary Party meeting has commenced in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not attending the meeting.
DMK's Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva on Tuesday gave a notice to send the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021 to the Select Committee of the Upper House, reports news agency ANI. The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which seeks to link Aadhaar with Voter ID, was passed by the Lok Sabha on Monday.

The 'The Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021' has been listed for final consideration and passing in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. It is expected to be taken up after the Question House ends at 1 pm.
