Sale of the Century host Tony Barber, 81, left confused as he forgets one of the reasons why he is appearing on the Today show during awkward segment

Tony Barber is arguably one of Australia's most iconic game show presenters.

But on Tuesday, the Sale of the Century host was left red-faced after he briefly forgot about the new app he was meant to be promoting on the Today show.

During an appearance on Channel Nine's breakfast show, host David Campbell asked Tony, 81, about the app he was advertising.

'What's this new app you're getting behind? What is it?' he asked.

'New app?' a confused Tony questioned before adding: 'Oh yep that one! That's the important one!'

Tony also reflected on his years as host of Sale of the Century during the interview.

'I think Mondays were great. Monday morning we would go in and record a whole week's worth of shows,' he explained.

'First thing Monday morning, the ratings came out and the program manager would rush around with another case of champagne.'

In its 22 years on TV, Sale of the Century gave away $60 million. 

Tony had a meteoric rise on Australian TV with him first 'discovered' while doing some cigarette commercials.

It only took him three years to win the coveted Gold Logie for the game show, The Great Temptation.
