The executive committee of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has ruled that Kaizer Chiefs' fixtures for the month of December would not be postponed as the club had requested.

In a statement released to the media on Tuesday afternoon, the PSL reiterated that their executive committee "afforded Kaizer Chiefs a full opportunity to provide information in support of their request"  when the club struggled with a Covid-19 outbreak in the squad.

Chiefs requested that the matches against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows be postponed as a result of the outbreak and didn't send a team to play in either fixture.

Other matches that they wanted postponed were against Sekhukhune United and Royal AM.

Those fixtures went ahead with Chiefs winning 2-0 and losing 1-0 respectively.

"During its deliberations on the matter the executive committee has taken the advice of senior counsel; has obtained input from the league's chief medical officer; and has considered representations from those potentially affected by the football department’s decision including Kaizer Chiefs," the statement said.

"Having exhaustively considered all aspects of the matter, and the information provided, the executive committee today resolved that Kaizer Chiefs has not established a basis to reverse the decision of the football department.

"The decision of the football department stands and the request to postpone Kaizer Chief’s matches for the month of December 2021 has been declined," added the statement.

The PSL confirmed that no further comment will be given on the matter until a scheduled press conference which will be held on 5 January.

Chiefs face Maritzburg United on Wednesday, 22 December before the DSTV Premiership takes a break until February.
