The tourism ministry of Vietnam has requested the government to think of resuming visa free entry for up to 15 days for the ones who are arriving from few countries.

This proposal is part of a preliminary report on attracting more international tourists back to Vietnam, as per Vn Express report. This initiation would be done under a vaccine passport trial programme that had been submitted to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for consideration.

Visitors from Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom have been permitted to stay in Vietnam for 15 days at the max without a visa, prior to the pandemic situation.

The policy is said to have been a prime factor that perked up the tourism industry of Vietnam.

However, in March 2020, when Vietnam had shut its borders to foreign tourists, it also called off its visa waiver policy as the nation dealt with the pandemic.

Also, the ministry has proposed the government to permit the travel agencies to draw foreign tourists either by regular commercial flights, sea or land.

They are only allowed to bring back foreign tourists on chartered flights at the present scenario.

The Express report also explained that the ministry was keen to see that the government has allowed Binh Dinh province, home to the famous resort town of Quy Nhon, and the southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City of Vietnam to receive foreign tourists in the second phase of the vaccine passport programme.

The ministry has advised the government permit Vietnamese who are residing abroad with United States green and permanent residence cards to join the vaccine passport trial programme for foreign tourists.

Among overseas Vietnamese, there was high demand to return to their homeland for the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations in early February.
