Kenyan Q1 mobile subscriptions rise nearly 1 percent, 59 million phones on networks

About 59 million phones were connected to mobile networks in Kenya for the first quarter ending 30 September and the number of mobile subscriptions fell to 64.9 million. The Communications Authority (CA) quarterly statistics report based on returns from operators puts the number of feature phones at 33 million and the number of smartphones at 26 million. The penetration rates were 67.9 percent for feature phones and 53.4 percent for smartphones.
