MADURAI: The
DMK came to power in Tamil Nadu by making 505 false and unfulfillable election promises,
AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam said on Friday.
“If the DMK does not fulfil its poll promises and give proper governance, the government will come to the right place – to us (AIADMK),” party coordinator O Panneerselvam said in Theni while leading the AIADMK’s state-wide protest against what it called the DMK government’s anti-people attitude.
He stated that former chief minister
J Jayalalithaa had come out with the choicest and foresightful schemes for the people and fulfilled them. This was followed by the Edappadi K Palaniswami-led government, he added. “The DMK government lacks foresight,” he added.
OPS said that the time when people would come to the streets and protest was nearing. “They said Stalin would come and bring a dawn to Tamil Nadu but it has still not dawned even seven months after they came to power,” he said.
The former CM also accused the ruling party of giving up the state’s rights over Mullaperiyar dam, the prime water source for five districts in Tamil Nadu, despite the Jayalalithaa government fighting for it in Supreme Court to strengthen the dam and to increase the water level to its full reservoir capacity of 152 feet.
Panneerselvam said the quality of rice distributed at public distribution system outlets had deteriorated to a level wherein even cattle refused to consume it.
The AIADMK leader held the state government responsible for inflation and the rise in the prices of essential food items and vegetables. He also said the DMK government was responsible for the fuel price remaining high.
