A major police operation is under in Sydney's south-west with dozens of officers surrounding an apartment building.

Police were called for an apartment building near Bonnyrigg Plaza and have since blocked off Bonnyrigg Avenue.

Locals have reported that police in bulletproof vests and detectives are on the scene with PolAir circling the area for at least 20 minutes.
