The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday chose to avoid speaking to media on the ongoing controversies around the BCCI and Virat Kohli and said that the matter will be dealt with by the board.
Earlier on Wednesday, team India test captain Virat Kohli in his press conference before leaving for the South Africa tour denied BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s statement of requesting him for quitting the T20 captaincy.
Kohli said that he was not told by anyone to not leave the T20 captaincy, while Ganguly in an interview had said that the BCCI requested Virat Kohli to not leave the T20 captaincy. Notably in September this year before the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli had announced that he will leave the T20 captaincy after the world cup and in his press release he had clearly mentioned that he is stepping down as T20 captain to focus more on ODI and Test captaincy. It was evident that Virta was keen to lead the Indian team to the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
But BCCI on December 8, while announcing the test team for the South Africa tour, sacked Virat Kohli from the ODI captaincy and appointed Rohit Sharma as the new captain to lead the team.
What did Ganguly say about Kohli’s claims?
The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly on Thursday in Kolkata when asked about Kohli’s claims, said, no comments, that BCCI is dealing with the issue and he will not say anything at this point in time.
Is Virat Kohli available for the ODI series vs South Africa?
Earlier there were speculations that Virat Kohli might not play the ODI series against South Africa due to a family break. But Kohli in his press conference denied all reports and said that he was always available for the team that he always looks forward to play for India.
