Ritu Varma can't stop gushing about the upcoming Dhruva Natchathiram, directed by Gautam Menon, who is every actor's dream director. "Growing up admiring their movies and now starring in them is the pinnacle of any actor's ambition," says the Malla Reddy Engineering College alumna. The performer, who admits she isn't set out for abstract 9-to-5 work, says she would have loved to try her hand at gaming or graphic design as a side hustle.

She believes that performers with an academic degree are less desperate and dejected if things don't work out. "Although I've had a fortunate career, I did suffer a dry spell a few years back. But I was able to handle it because I knew I had options if I didn't make it big," she says. She is also one of the few Hyderabadi girls to have landed roles in telugu films, dispelling the stereotype that telugu producers never cast local women. 


"Because of my surname, many people assume I'm from Mumbai. Fortunately, I have Pelli Choopulu, which was shot in sync sound and for which I had to dub. "This is proof that I am a Telugu-speaking local girl who has landed jobs on her own merit," she says. For aspiring performers, the opening up of OTTs and video-sharing platforms, according to varma, has been a game-changer. "With social media and YouTube series, today is a fantastic moment to stay active, stay in circulation, and display your talent." "Your goal should be opportunities, not the size of the screen," she advises.
