MUMBAI: Enforcement Directorate (
ED) has summoned an
IPS officer, posted as superintendent of police in one of the districts in the state as part of the probe into the
money laundering case they are investigating against former state home minister
Anil Deshmukh.
It is stated that the SP has been summoned for questioning related to the transfer-posting of the police officers for consideration. There is no clarity on what capacity he has been summoned in the case.
The SP was posted in
SRPF in Nagpur which is considered to be an insignificant posting and last June he was transferred to the district as SP when Deshmukh was the state home minister. Afterwards, Deshmukh through his official twitter handle had appreciated the good work done by the SP in the district.
When contacted, the SP said, “I will cooperate in the ED investigation. I will provide the information they need from me, although I am not connected with the case.”
The ED is investigating a money laundering case against Deshmukh based on the CBI FIR. Deshmukh has been accused of misusing his home minister post and asking then police officer Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore from bar owners for him every month. The ED and CBI are also examining if Deshmukh had favoured police officers in transfer-posting for money.
The former State Intelligence Department (SID) chief Rashmi Shukla’s last year recorded telephonic conversations of some influential persons who were discussing transfer-posting of police officers, including IPS, in exchange for money.
Deshmukh resigned from the home minister post in April this year after the former Mumbai police commissioner made a corruption allegation against him. Last month, the ED had arrested Deshmukh in the money laundering case and he is in jail custody.
