A Today show reporter has been heckled by a man on the street who yelled at her to 'stop lying to the world' about the latest Omicron cluster.

Gabrielle Boyle was speaking live from Rooty Hill in Sydney's west on Wednesday morning about the 200 cases of Covid recorded in Newcastle, all linked to a nightclub outbreak.

She was cut off in the middle of her segment by the man as the morning show displayed b-roll of Argyle House where the regional NSW cluster originated.

'Stop lying to the world. Stop lying to the world,' the man said.

'We're going to leave Gabby there, someone interfering with her cross,' host Sylvia Jeffreys added as they turned down the audio on the heckler.

Police are investigating a positive Covid case who was allegedly meant to be in isolation and attended the nightclub, triggering an outbreak of more than 200 people.

The NSW Health Minister on Tuesday referred the reveller who attended the Argyle House nightclub in Newcastle to authorities, alleging they were under an order to self isolate and absconded quarantine.

'Out of the roughly 650 to 680 people that were there at the club on Wednesday 8th December … there's now more than 200 patrons who are positive to COVID,' Brad Hazzard told Nine News.

Most of them are believed to have the highly infections Omicron strain, but further testing is underway to confirm.

The outbreak is linked to a boat party five nights earlier on Sydney Harbour where at least five people caught the virus.

Mr Hazzard said the case was told to self-isolate for 'seven days' but instead is believed to have travelled to the Hunter region while infectious.

'If that's the case, I've asked for Health to refer that person as soon as possible … to police,' he said.

'Individual responsibility has to play a part here.'

Anyone who was at the Newcastle nightclub between 9pm December 8 and to 3am December 9 are close contacts and must immediately get tested and isolate for seven days, regardless of the result.

The rule applies to all 680 people who checked in using the QR code that night and to anyone who did not check in.

Household contacts of anyone who attended the nightclub are also ordered to immediately get tested and isolate until the close contact tests negative, due to the high transmission at the venue.
