Delhi news live: AQI likely to be ‘very poor’; clean-up begins at farmers’ protest sites

Delhi live news: The air quality in Delhi could remain in the ‘poor’ or lower end of the ‘very poor’ category on Monday, going by the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi. The minimum temperature today is likely to settle at around 7 degrees Celsius in Delhi, according to the weather department.

As the farmers at the Singhu border continued wrapping up their protest on Sunday, the police posted at the site cleared up most of the tents. Heaters and coolers for police at the site were sent back on Sunday, and the remaining tents will be dismantled by Monday.

On the virus front, Delhi on Sunday reported 56 new cases of Covid-19 cases and zero deaths with the positivity rate of 0.10 per cent, according to data shared by the health department. Currently, there 397 active cases in the national capital.

Meanwhile, various school bodies and parents of students have continued to push for reopening of educational institutions after they were closed again following the Supreme Court’s reprimand to the Delhi government over its pollution control measures.

In other news, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has been booked in Delhi after a BJP leader alleged that he used abusive language against BJP members in a TV interview and threatened them, officials said Sunday.

Minimum temperature at 7 degrees Celsius; AQI likely in ‘very poor’ category

The minimum temperature on Monday is likely to settle at around 7 degrees Celsius in Delhi, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.

Over the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded was 6.6 degree Celsius, two degrees below the normal and slightly higher than the 6.4 degrees Celsius recorded on Sunday.

The maximum temperature on Monday is likely to be around 24 degrees Celsius, the IMD forecast indicates. Relative humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 97%. Read more

Delhi: Water-soluble plastic to low-cost computer, school students pitch their projects to entrepreneurs

A group of Delhi government school students received an investment of Rs 1.5 lakh for their startup creating water-soluble and decomposable plastic on Sunday’s Business Blasters TV programme.

As part of its ‘Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum’, the Delhi government started the Business Blasters programme across all its senior secondary schools in September by giving Rs 2,000 as seed money to class 11 and 12 students to develop their entrepreneurship ideas. The programme is intended to help the students attract larger investments by pitching their projects to established entrepreneurs. Read more

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut booked over ‘objectionable remarks’ against women BJP members

The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut at Mandawali police station in East Delhi over his allegedly objectionable remarks against women BJP members. An FIR has been registered under IPC sections 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman) and 500 (defamation) after they received a complaint from a national general secretary of the BJP’s Mahila Morcha.

In her complaint, the woman has claimed that in an interview telecast on a Marathi news channel on December 9, Raut issued threats against “the life and limb of BJP political workers” and also used abusive language.  Read more

Skill development fair held in Greater Noida

More than 700 locals registered for a one-day skill development fair held in Greater Noida’s Surajpur on Sunday. The event was jointly organised by Greater Noida Authority, the local administration and Uttar Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Mission.

According to officials, 717 youngsters signed up for the various skill training programmes. The event was inaugurated by Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Dr Mahesh Sharma, who also interacted with the beneficiaries. Officials have also been directed to hold more such events to improve the employment scenario of the area. Read more

Delhi: Lunchbox outside Pragya Thakur’s house triggers bomb scare

The Delhi Police and several intelligence agencies went into a tizzy in a potential bomb scare after an abandoned lunchbox was found in a pavement near Bhopal MP and BJP leader Pragya Singh Thakur’s residence in South Avenue on Sunday. Delhi: Boys attacked outside school were being bullied, say cops

A day after four Class X students were assaulted outside a government school in East Delhi, allegedly by a group of students from another school, initial probe by police showed that the victims were being bullied for some time.

On Saturday, the students, who had come for an exam at the school, were allegedly chased by the other group and attacked with sharp objects. “We are trying to ascertain the exact reason, but it seems they were being bullied for a month. The accused were standing outside the school with weapons…,” said a senior police officer.
